Introduction to European Union Law
This seminar will offer an overview of
the European Union as an organization with a complex and highly developed system of internal law which has direct
effect within the legal systems of its’ member states.
Understanding the WTO
This seminar will give an overview of the WTO; it’s structure, the agreements, the Doha Agenda, the developing countries and the Organization.
Competition Law in the European Union
This seminar will review the regulatory framework for competition and enforcement practices, which actively remove barriers to entry and impediments to effective competition.
WTO: The Dispute Resolution Process
This seminar will discuss the dispute resolution process of the WTO. It is the central pillar of the multilateral trading system and the WTO’s unique contribution to the stability of the global economy.
China and the WTO
This seminar will cover the reasons China sought membership in the WTO; the changes in laws, institutions and policies China agreed to make to bring them into conformity with international trade rules and how well they are honoring these agreements.
Substance Abuse and Competence
This seminar will study the ethical implications of lawyer substance abuse including the duty to inform on other lawyers. Special attention will be devoted to the relationship between substance abuse and competence. Anxiety, burnout and depression as they impact competence will also be explored.
Remedial Ethics 101 – A General Review of Standards
This seminar will review the ABA Model Code of Professional Responsibility and general standards of conduct for attorneys. The meaning of the canons of ethics with particular emphasis on maintaining competence and keeping client confidences will also be discussed.
Securities Regulation, Exemptions from Registration
This seminar will discuss the federal securities law applicable to transactions and securities exempt from registration. It will review definitions and technical requirements necessary to meet legal exemptions, liability provisions applicable to private offerings, and private acquisitions of shares. The focus here is on federal law with a brief overview of State law coordination.
“Anti-Trust Law Primer”
This seminar will review federal anti-trust law relative to lawful and unlawful business practices. Included are statutory purpose, terms and definitions, civil and criminal provisions of the law, enforcement and coordination between the FTC and Justice, and exemptions and immunities.
Privacy Law Primer
This seminar will undertake a general purview of privacy law in the United States. It will review the Constitutional, statutory, common law and case law bases to the right of privacy including applications in individual, business, and employment contexts.
Federal Law
Governing Employment Parts ONE &
TWO
This is a two-part seminar. It will study key provisions of federal anti-discrimination law applicable to employee recruitment, selection, evaluation, promotion, and termination. It will also examine how such anti-discrimination laws may collide with other legal obligations as well as legal rights of employers, including employment-at-will, safety in the workplace, privacy, and other matters of public policy. |
